Apache Hadoop requires Cygwin in order to run on Windows. Therefore, ensure that at least basic base, net (OpenSSH, tcp_wrapper packages) and security related Cygwin packages are installed if you are working on Windows. After installing Cygwin, update your PATH variable by appending ";C:\cygwin\bin". The default installation of Cygwin may not work.
