WSO2 IoT Server (WSO2 IoTS) supports devices supports devices, such as desktop (only for Windows 10), mobile and notebook devices, running on Windows 8.1 and 10. The following subsections explain how you can work with the Windows device type:

Note

Currently, Windows mobile device management only works in the super tenant mode. Therefore, when you log in to WSO2 IoTS IoT Server you need to get your IoTS WSO2 IoT Server administrator's assistance.

Warning

Before you start, make sure that your system administrator does the following configurations to configure the Windows device type in IoTSWSO2 IoT Server.

  2. Windows Platform Configurations.

Follow the instructions given below to enroll a Windows device:

  1. Start up your windows device.

  2. Tap add account to start the registration process.
  3. Provide your corporate email address and then tap sign in.

    Note

    For example, if your domain is enterpriseenrollment.prod.wso2.com, you need to give the workplace email address as admin@prod.wso2.com.

    The auto discovery fails if the proxy configurations have not taken place correctly. Then, the device client is unable to contact the server, and the user has to manually enter the discovery server address when registering a Windows device with WSO2 IoTsIoT Server.

  4. Enter the credentials that you provided when registering with WSO2 IoTsIoT Server and tap Login
    • Username - Enter your WSO2 IoTS IoT Server username.
    • Password - Enter your WSO2 IoTS IoT Server password.

    By default, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 only supports the BYOD registration process.

  5. Read the policy agreement and tap I accept the terms to accept the agreement.  

  6. The application starts searching for the required certificate policy.

    Once the application successfully finds and completes the certificate sharing process, it indicates that the email address is saved. 

  7. Tap on WSO2 enrolled once the device enrollment process is complete.

    When the application has successfully connected to WSO2 IoTSIoT Server, it indicates the details of the last successful attempt that was made to connect to the server.

    Windows devices support local polling. Therefore if a device does not initiate the wakeup call, you can enable automatic syncing by tapping the button.

Follow the instructions given below to unregister a Windows-based device:

  1. Open the native Windows application.
  2. Tap the Image Added icon.

  3. Tap delete to confirm that you want to unregister the device.

The native Workplace application will inform you the conditions that apply if you are unregistering the device.

Note

You cannot uninstall the Workplace application as it is a Windows system application.

  2. On your device, open Settings and then tap on Accounts to start the registration process.
  3. Tap Access work or school and then tap Connect on the resulting UI.

  4. Enter the credentials that you provided when registering with WSO2 IoTsIoT Server and tap Login

    • Password - Enter your WSO2 IoTS IoT Server password.

Try it out

You can view device details and carry out operations on your device, after successfully enrolling it with WSO2 IoTSIoT Server. Let's take a look at how you can do it:

  1. Navigate to the Device Management page to view all the created devices.

    2. Click the icon.
    3. Click Device Management.
  2. Click the view icon on the Windows device that you enrolled.

    This directs you to the device details page where you can view the device information and try out operations on a device.

    Device Details

    The following device information will be retrieved automatically when you register with

    IoTS

    IoT Server.

    DeviceThis shows the name the user has given his/her device (e.g., Kim's iPhone).
    ModelThe type of device is stated (e.g., iPhone, iPad).
    StatusIndicates if the device is active, inactive or removed from WSO2
    IoTS
    IoT Server.
    OwnerThe owner of the device is stated (e.g., Kim).
    OwnershipThe ownership policy is stated (BYOD or COPE).
    Last UpdateIndicates the last date and time that the device was updated.
    Policy ComplianceIf your device does not comply with certain criteria in the enforced policy, the aspects in which your device is none compliant will be highlighted under this section.
    Device LocationProvides the location of your device.
    Operation LogA list of all the operations that have been carried out by you and its current status
