WSO2 BAM

WSO2 Business Activity Monitor (WSO2 BAM) is a product designed to solve the problems in the wider area of business activity monitoring. WSO2 BAM is also doubles as a flexible framework that allows you to model any custom key performance indicators. This allows to achieve requirements of different stakeholders, may it be business users, dev ops, CxOs. WSO2 BAM achieves this level of flexibility while integrating technologies to address areas such as Big Data storage, Big Data analytics and high performance data transfer.

What is BAM?

Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) is a term coined by Gartner. It stresses on aggregating, analyzing and presenting information about business activities. This definition is paramount when designing a solution to address a business activity monitoring use case. The aggregation refers to the collection of data. The analysis refers to the manipulation of data to extract information. Presentation refers to representing this data visually or in other ways such as alerts. The BAM architecture reflects this natural flow in its design.

BAM, SOA and Big Data

The SOA paradigm encourages system's to expose business functions as services. Then, to gain insight and transparency to business activities, the requirement will be to start monitoring these exposed services. By plugging into services, all of this data can be harnessed into valuable information. But, the amount of information that is flowing through an organization's systems is enormous. Therefore, all this data needs to be collected and processed with a system capable of handling Big Data loads, capable of handling data volumes of TeraBytes or even PetaBytes with relative ease. WSO2 BAM has been designed to be a completely scalable BAM solution, that can scale when aggregating data, scale when analyzing data and scale when presenting data.
