Device Operations

Applying device operations

Follow the instructions given below to apply operations on devices:

  1. Sign in to the EMM console and click the menu icon.
  2. Click Device Management.
  3. Apply device operations.
    1. Apply device operations on multiple devices that belong to the same mobile platform:
      1. Filter the devices using the By Platform filter.
        Example: To filter the Windows devices select windows under By Platform.
      2. Select the device/devices you wish to carry out the operation on by clicking on the respective device.
      3. Click on the operation you wish to carry out and provide the required details (if requested) to apply the selected operation on your device. For more details see, allowed device operations.
    2. Apply device operations on a selected device:
      1. Navigate to the device page of the device you selected.

        1. Sign in to the EMM management console and click the menu icon.
        2. Click Device Management.

        3. Click the view icon on your registered device to navigate to the Device page.

          The device page has the Device Overview, Operations, and Device Details. 

      2. Click on the respective operation under Operations and provide the required details (if requested) to apply the selected operation on your device. For more details, see allowed device operations.

There might be situations where the operation you wish to carry out failed. In such situations the EMM device owner and the administrator will be notified via a notification. For more information, see Notifying Users on Device Operation Failures and Other Information.

 

Allowed device operations

The following section describes the operations that can be carried out on Android, iOS and Windows devices via the EMM console

Ability to remove a device lock via the EMM server.
Change Lock-Code
Ability to change the provided passcode or lock-code.X

This operation is specific for Windows devices and is similar to Change Lock-Code.

Ring
Ability to ring the device via the EMM server.
Message
Ability to send a message to the device via the EMM server. The EMM admin can use
this device operation to send group messages or even private messages to the EMM users.

Wipe Data
Ability to carryout a factory reset on your own device via the EMM server. The user will have
to provide the PIN, which he/she entered when registering to EMM, to be able to wipe his/her device.

APN Configurations
Ability to set the APN configurations on a user's device. In iOS, the EMM server does not detect
whether a device (i.e., iPad) has only Wifi, or whether the device has 3G and Wifi. If there is only
Wifi, the APN configurations can not be pushed, and a policy violation will occur.
