What's new in this release

WSO2 Enterprise Mobility Manager (EMM) version 2.0.1 is the successor of version 2.0.0. EMM 2.0.0 contains the following new features, enhancements and changes that can be used in EMM 2.0.1 too:

New features and enhancements to EMM

• Revamped EMM architecture.
  EMM is built on top of the Connected Device Management Framework (CDMF), which has separate components. i.e., devices, operations, policies and configurations. EMM is a combination of several plugins that are in line with the mobile technology, such as iOS, Android and Windows.
• Responsive User Interface (UI). 
  The new UI is built to detect the users screen size and orientation, and change the layout to fit the device accordingly.
• New UI framework and layout.
  EMM offers the following functionality via the front-end of the UI:
  
  • New operations notifications pane:
    This new operations notification pane allows users to track the status of the operations.
  • License management module:
    Configure licenses based on the platform and tenants.
  • New dashboard:
    EMM'S new UI provides a dashboard feature, which provides summarized reports and many more to the administrator.
• Support for the Windows platform.

• New operations in the existing platforms.

  • Android
    For more information on the new Android specific features, see the Android features tab under New features introduced for each device platform.

  • iOS
    For more information on the new iOS specific features, see the iOS features tab under New features introduced for each device platform.
• Enhancement to the enrolment process of the BYOD and COPE Android devices.
  IT Administrators possess full control over a COPE device, therefore it is only required to register the device with EMM. A BYOD will need to accept the given license agreement and then provide a PIN when registering or enrolling the device.
• Clear demarcations between operations and policies.
  Previously most of the functions were pushed to the devices via operations. This task was tedious and in order to improve the efficiency, EMM now allows users to define policies for such functions (i.e, configure Wi-Fi settings). These policies can be assigned based on the user role, device ownership and the individual user, and pushed to multiple devices within the system.
• New policy management framework.  
  The Policy management functionality has been enhanced so it can closely monitor and enforce the assigned policies. This functionality is available via EMM's new UI.
  Example:
  A policy has been defined to deactivate the camera. In order to monitor that this policy is being executed and enforced as expected, EMM has enhanced it policy management framework. 
  
• REST API support for operations.
  Previously all operations were moderated via Jaggery. EMM now runs operations via the REST API.
  
• Role based access control
  Enhancements have been made to the the role based access control through the enhancements performed on the permission model.
  
• White labelling support  
  The approach to providing white label support has changed.

Compatible versions
